Topic:   Optima H79 same as H78DC3?

I've been looking into getting the Optima H79 but have found the prices on it going up & up. I had heard that Optima was adding the H78DC3 to their line of projectors and after talking to 5 or 6 different dealers, have come to the conclusion that the H79 & H78DC3 are the same projector. Has anyone seen a detailed test report that has compared the two units????

Topic:   How Many Lumens do I need?

AV Integrated: Fist of all, thanks for all the great advice! I have been reading this forum daily since it stated and have found it extremely valuable. Here is my question: I understand that if the room is theater dark then a projector like the AE 700 will look great. How will the OptimaH79 look in a theater black room? When properly calibrated for optimal video the H79 is much brighter. Does this mean that you would have to have lights on in the room to prevent from getting headaches or blinded? I am finally getting ready to purchase a projector now that I am almost finished with my basement. I am considering the Optoma H78DC3 Projector since it is closer to my price range. Not quite as bright as the H79 but still brighter than the AE700. I will probably use a 92” or 106” daylite HCCV or Stewart Firehawk screen. Actually I plan to build my own using their screen material. Anyway, do I need to worry about it getting too bright? Also, do you know if it is possible to by Stewart screen material as you can Daylite? Cheers, Schuey

Check out this review... Interesting info and the screenies are probably quite comparable to the H79. http://www.projectorreviews.com/review.asp?reid=43 Also look at the beginning of this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=507075 For reference to the lesser H77... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=428729

Topic:   Bargin on a Optoma H77

You are right. It does not look like H77 based on the pictures I have also seen. I have also read on the other forum that H78 (with DC3) has been/is about to be released and it is priced very aggressively. I also read that H77 has serious panning issues that Optoma is charing $150 to fix thru an upgrade. Currently, the upgrade is for the beta users only. From what I have read, the upgrade is both a firmware and hardware upgrade.
