Okay, I think I chose the right projector from the list but it probably doesn't matter much. Anyways, I just bought my first projector and its got the 1080i HD capability. It comes with this a cable that has component inputs on one end, and a VGA input on the other. I know that the projector has no component inputs and that the VGA port doubles as the component input, but I'm a little confused as to how to plug in say an xBox to the projector. I know that i can just plug that cable into an HD Cable box and I'm set to go. However, the Xbox needs to be plugged into RGB component inputs right? So I don't really know how to get my XBox on a projector in glorious HD. What are my options right now? Do I have to buy a different type of cable, or is there a quick fix/adapter I can buy. Any help would be great. Thanks. |

I have the same problem as you. I am wondering how the story ends for you since you posted this back in january. Please let me know. Thanks!

I purchased a projector for the same reason as you ( and a couple others) I wanted to run my Nintendo Wii (only 480p in that case) and also my xbox 360. I purchased a Sharp xr-10x, and it comes with a cable to run component cables (R/G/B) into the 15pin d-sub (sp?) inputs on the back of the pj. I'm no expert, but we play the 360 in 1080i, and man, "Gears of War" brings a tear to your eye at 110 inches diagonal in High Def:) (The projector sits about 11 feet back from the wall. Depending on your space, if it sits about 5 feet back, the max picture is about 60 inch. If you have 38 feet, the picture is maxed at 30 feet diagonal)
Something else to consider, I haven't checked into this a lot, but if I run the high def setup, the pj won't play the sound with it's internal speaker like it does with just the Red/Yellow/White composite. This is odd, BUT I simply use a cheap Wal-mart 70 watt surround sound speaker system which is plenty loud for me, and my brother in law (who has the xr-10xl) uses his home stereo. Unless you are a hardcore audiophile, either of these solutions work very well, and are much better than the built in audio (which is still good for what it is)
Most importantly! To save you the possible problem I am having (see my other post) If at all possible, try to buy a pj from somewhere where there is a warranty of some sort on the lamp! I was on a budget like you, and I'm pretty sure my lamp blew after only 4 months and 400 hrs. (The xr-10x(l) warranty is a hefty 3 years, with 2 years express repair, but it only covers the bulb for 90 days) I'd hate to see you put all your money into a pj, and then have a surprise $300 lamp replacement expense 4 months down the road, So I cannot stress this enough!
Hope everything goes well, and you enjoy your new pj! |

Although I think these questions would be answered, I swear I've looked all over and can't seem to get the info I need, and I'm at my wits end, help!
I have owned a Sharp xr-10x for approx. 4 months, and recently it just stopped showing a picture. It worked fine in the morning, I turned it off and went to work, came home, and when I turned it on, no picture. Here is exactly what happens:
1-Projector is in standby, so I hit the power button.
2-Green power light comes on, and lamp light flashes green (warm-up).
3-Lamp light goes solid green, but no picture. (However, if you look at the lens, you can barely make out the image, .)
4-Faint lens image goes away, and lamp light blinks green again.
5-after about 7-8 repetitions of this process, the lamp light starts blinking red, and power light blinks green. Finally, both lights go red, and projector does a bit of cooling, and reverts to standby.
Lamp use was approx 400-450 hrs at this point.
So, I call Sharp to see how their 3 yr warranty (2 year express repair) will help me. Well, they tell me that they will pay to have it overnighted for repairs, and overnighted right back. Great! except there's a little writing at the bottom of the email that states if the repair needed isn't covered (read as "blown lamp") they will be charging me a $50 "evaluation" fee, and also charging me to ship it back to me. The phone "tech" operator says they can't answer any of my questions (Like "Do YOU think it's the bulb?"), AND I'm informed that their "real" tech support people don't take phone calls. Apparently I'm supposed to have a wallet full of cash, and a heart full of hope :)
So, if you are a sympathetic soul, you should understand my frustration, and could possibly answer these questions:
1- Does this sound like a blown lamp?...I didn't hear a "pop" or anything, and that slight image exists, so I am unsure. On the other hand, the lamp light is red, and the temp light seems perfectly happy to stay off.
2- Oddly, I have never heard anyone say that they have regularly gotten the full 2000-3000 hrs of lamp life out of a projector bulb, so is this really the case? The company I ordered a replacement lamp from (with a 180 day warranty) told me that lamps regularly blow out in the first 180 days. Obviously, if this is the case, why are these bulbs touted with such high life expectancies?
3- I HAVE heard that the lamp that a projector comes with will usually not have the life expectancy that a replacement bulb has, presumably because they are not packaged as securely. Can anyone verify this?
I know this has been a long post, and if I missed a similar post, I am truly sorry. I actually love this projector, especially for the money, and I have 4 other people convinced to buy one, hehe. I keep it well ventilated, and clean it quite a bit (when I checked the lamp after this mishap, there was a bit of dust on the mesh filter on the side of the lamp casing)
I am completely new to all of this, so any advice would be greatly appreciated, ( and if my experience is a fluke, I'd love to hear it :) ) Thanks in advance! |

I've been noticing some flickering when using my XR10-X on live video transmission (using a MiniDV camera)...
Any hint ?
