I also own a Runco 410 and I wouldn't recommend one. This is why:
Great image quality but I have had continuous problems with my Runco CL-410. I love the image when its working, but honestly the 410 lacks good dealer/manufacturer support in my area. Maybe some of these things are expected if you buy a high end projector but after spending nearly $7000 for a top end projector, installation, screen, and receiver, I expect top notch service, features, and reliability. I've had my projector nearly 2 years and its been out of service 4 months, partially because of parts availability, partially because of dealer and manufacturer service.
Lacking Features: The owners manual lacks many of the needed details. For example, when the lamp goes out, and it will soon after the lamp warranty, the manual doesn't tell you how to determine this. I think Runco has failed to improve their product with features. Another example of this is, the projector needs a manual shutoff and power button. The blinking, continuous, or absent blue light on the projector is supposed to indicate whether or not the projector is on or not. This is another feature lacking in the Manual and after using the product for a few months the customer figures some of these things out. When a consumer has problems with his/her projector its difficult to determine what is wrong when your not even sure if the remote is working.
The main problem I just don't like how Runco wants you to rely on the dealer for so many things. With my experience, any Joe Blow can become a dealer. Also to order a lamp($700) you have to go through the dealer. My local dealer didn’t stock any lamps, so I get to wait nearly a month for the shipping. Buy a more commercialized brand and you can order your own lamp and eliminate that middle man. It makes it even worse when you don’t trust the middle man.
Other problems: My projector started by not turning on the first time. After two or three tries it would be up and running. After a month or two of this the projector stopped turning on completely . The dealer sent the projector back to the Manufacturer and 2 months later I get a story that they gutted the entire thing so I basicly am getting a new projector right? Well the lamp goes out 2 months later which is of course out of warranty because I bought the original projector more than a year ago. Save your self some headaches and look for another manufacturer. |

Howdy:D I can understand where most of you are coming from, but, there is one thing. Do any of you actually own a CL 410? I have one and have had it since the day this particular model started shipping. Although I cannot compare to other models (first projector:)), I will be happy to say that I am more than pleased with this one. I have a DVDO processor which doesn't hurt the whole experience either:-P Although I did have a Sony for a short time, the Runco kills it though. I project onto my wall, which I haven't even applied any specific paint on other than the original wall paint, and it's frikkin' sweet. Will be happy to show screen shots of both television(HD and non-HD), plus shots of my Xbox 360 running on it projecting on a 112" wide screen from only 13' away. Needless to say, I love it. Plust this thing was built to last, with the cast iron casing and all:D |

I am setting up a new home-theatre room. I am looking at either the Runco CL-410ST or the Sony VPL-HS51 or the Sharp XV-Z2000. Obviously I am in the search mode. My question is this. Is it worth the extra money to buy a DVD player with HDMI upconversion? I need to buy a new DVD player anyway but I don't know if this will make any difference. Any advice on the projectors would be appreciated too, but I know this is the wrong forum for that. |

I have heard the reliability of the Runco is not so good. Has anyone heard of any good things. |

Good Afternoon:
I'm almost ready to purchase a projector for the following uses:
- Watching HDTV (via a SA 8300HD PVR)
- Watching DVD's (both widescreen and fullscreen)
- Playing Video Games (PS2 and PC)
My room is light controlled and I'm installing a Stewartfilm 82" 16:9 screen. I visited my installer yesterday and he demo'd a Epson Cinema 200+, it was a very nice projector for $2500 CDN, but since I have a larger budget he suggested the Runco CL-410 which he say quote "will blow the epson out of the water".
So I happily make my arrangements for cables, setup time, etc. I come home and eagerly head to Runco's site to look at the specifications. Contrast is great, connections options are good (would've liked HDMI over DVI, but no big deal), then I look at it's native resolution, 1024x576.
That seems really small to me. I realize it must have a nice scaler to downcovert everything to that resolution.. I realize DVD's are HD so they will look awesome...
I'm just worried about the future when cable companies start moving everything to 1080i and even 1080p. I guess I just want reassurance that i'm purchasing an awesome projector - this is why I'm seeking owner feedback.
