I have had an optoma H31 projector for the past 3 years, I use it for my home theater, and it now needs a new bulb. I found a few bulbs on ebay for $200.00. I am now wondering, however if I should get a newer projector, maybe HD ? I don't know if I replace the bulb if the projector itself will last another 2000 hours.
I use my playstation 3 to watch blu-rays and I watch HD channels on TV. I'm looking to spend only a few hundred dollars, hoping I could get some suggestions on some used projectors that might be better than mine, or if I should just go with the replacement bulb.
Thanks |

As stated in a previous post, my color wheel in my H31 went ka-blooey. This was diagnosed via the loud crunch sound and subsequent black and white images and semi-violently shaking projector. I found out that a replacement color wheel is only $59. For that little, I was wondering how easy or difficult it is to open my projector and replace the part, assuming that this is indeed the only issue. For the record I have slightly above average tinkering skills.
Thanks for any advise. |

H31 for sure, but the only way to find out if your you projector has more then one color wheel, contact optoma by phone and ask. If there is more then one, you'll have to have someone or your self pull it out ,take a pic and send it to them. There tech will look at it and decided which one it is. I had same day response on mine. |

At 85$ I guess it will make for a good toy projector. Im not trying to burst your bubble, but it does sound to good to be true. At 850 (inflated) lumens, I can see you having problems watching movies w/o a dark room. But if you're after the kicks and giggles of having a 80in screen then I guess this is it... Just Don't expect too much as far as quality goes. But for 85$, not bad i guess... Keep us posted

Thanks, I hear what you're saying...I just saw another projector with 18,000 lumens:

The H31 was introduced in 2005, so it lags behind the competition for sure.
But based on the user experiences I've read, this product is in a different league than a kids projector like the Hasbro Zoombox or the Senario Mega-vu.
It's nice to know it comes from a vendor who continues to make well-received devices. Compared to the Pico's 9 (nine) lumens, I'm a little encouraged. |
