I'm preparing to finish my basement which will include a theatre area where I will have 100% light control. My current projector is a well-aged MovieTime DV10 that I've quite enjoyed. However, I know it is well past its useful lifespan, so I'm preparing to upgrade.
Here is what I'd like to do... I have roughly $2,000 to spend on a projector and screen to fit in a space where the only definite is 7ft ceilings. What I would like to do, if it made sense, would be to build a room that has my equipment in one room (computer, consoles, front and middle speakers, and the projector) a screen in the middle, then another room for viewing/seating. Basically one large rear projector screen.
First off, I don't know enough about rear projection to know if it's practical. Second, I'd like to know the quality loss, if any. Thirdly, I'd like to understand the cost of doing rear projection as apposed to a normal screen. And lastly, I'd love to hear some suggestions on screen material and/or projectors to make this work.
I'm also not married to the idea. If it is simply more hassle (or expense) then it is worth, just explain it to me and I'll listen to the argument. I just like the idea of being able to get right up onto the screen if I so desire. Seems like it would make playing different Wii games a bit more exciting for example.

My Optoma MovieTime DV10 which I love, made a awful sound while watching a movie.
I shut it down and extracted a pice of broken color wheel. The bulb is good (aprox 600 hrs). Does anyone have any experience with optoma repair centers? This unit is out of warrantee as I bought it refurbished.
What do you think the repair charge should be?
What's the most you would pay for repair and opposed to upgrading to a HD projector?
Do you know of any equal or better projectors that have the same short throw lense but can be ceiling mounted my room is only 11 ft deep.
Thanks for any and all help

I'm looking to upgrade from my MovieTime DV10 to a native HD projector for a cheap price. I'm looking at the Optoma HD70 since I can purchase one for around $780 new/shipped. I'm looking to stay under $1,000 on my purchase (way under if possible) and was wondering if the Optoma HD70 was still the best bang for my low end buck. I know they're an ageing technology, but I'm not really looking to "Wow" the neighbors as it were.
Any suggestions on other projector avenues or should I just take the Optoma HD70 deal?

Does anyone know if I can connect a Blu Ray player to this unit?
If so, will I see a dramatic difference in quality?
Finally, what cable should I be using to make this connection?

During the warm-up process the projector just died on me and it was as if there was not any power at all coming to the system no lights no fan running NOTHING. Only have about 100 hours on the unit.
