Hi, for the last three weeks I've had some problems hooking up my Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD player to my Sanyo PLV-Z2 projector. The Sanyo projector has a dvi input (fully HDCP compliant) on the back and the HD DVD player has a HDMI output. At first I tried an hdmi/dvi cable-didn't work. Now I'm trying an hdmi to hdmi cable with a dvi adapter. This works... for exactly six minutes. I turn the projector on, than the HD DVD player and I get connection and the Toshiba logo is displayed followed by a no disc display. I pop a disc in and it plays for about six minutes than I lose the picture completely and the HD DVD player reads "HDMI ERROR 1" This is an ongoing hedache, please does anyone have any tips or information that can solve this problem? |

I'm having a similar problem with blue splotches in top left and middle of the screen on a PLV-Z2 (~1/4 to 1/2 the screen). I've tried several attemps at blowing air in the optiocal path without success altough it has made a difference (reduced). I'm a little existant in dissassembling the whole thing as it will likely require some adjustments after doing so. |

Hi,
If there is *anyone* who might be able to offer some advice, I would really appreciate it.
I work for a non profit organization that relies on our projector to bring youth in for movies on Friday nights.
We have had a Sanyo PLV-Z2 for about 2 years, which has been adequate year round, even during the summer months when there is some light coming in early evening.
Lately, the picture has seemed very very dim, so much so that it is really difficult to watch. For example, any characters that are not Caucasian are too dark to be able to make out their facial expressions.
We took it to the local AV company that initially supplied it to us, and they were able to find out that it had clocked about 250 hours on Econo mode and about 50 hours on regular. They told us that a new lamp would not help.
Is there anything else you can think of?
I would really appreciate knowing some other troubleshooting I could do or if anyone else has had this program.
We really don't have a lot of money for things like this, so I am worried about special-ordering a lamp and then having that still not work.
Thanks! |

Hi, I have a similiar problem, I use a DVI-I cable but are having some issues. I just tried to connect my HTPC to my Z2, using a ATI with DVI-D graphics card (digital only). This will give me no image no matter what I do. I tried another computer with a DVI-I (both analog and digital) graphicscard and that will give me picture using the analog input on my Z2, but not digital. What am I doing wrong here? :-(
I really want to go digital as that is what my graphicscard use. Is it something wrong with my Z2 perhaps?
(In case you wonder how I managed to connect the DVI-I cable to a DVI-D port, I drilled holes in the grapichscard connector to make it fit, but this should not have anything to do with it. Connecting a regular LCD monitor to that port is working fine)
Grateful for any advise!
Thanks! |

I have owned and used a Z2 since early 2004. It has had one bulb replaced (I rarely used the Eco mode). I also had a dreaded dust blob and a blue discoloration on the screen.
There was little doubt in my mind that the dust, and possibly the panel failure, came about because of an inadequate filter and the high degree of difficulty in cleaning anything inside the projector.
With that in mind, I asked Sanyo for an authorization for return under warranty accompanied by a statement that I was aware that several customers had experienced the same problem I was now experiencing and that they had been told that the dust and consequent blue tint were maintainence issues and were not covered by the warranty. I added that should Sanyo choose to deal with my warranty claim in the same manner, that I wanted this letter to be viewed as an immediate appeal of that decision and I wished to be made aware of any administrative appeal procedures that would be necessary for me to exhaust prior to filing a claim in small claims court.
Sanyo replaced the panels at no cost. The Z2 has been humming along without a hitch and I am about to order a Z5.
