did you ever get this figred out? I am having same problem with my sony.
[QUOTE=kramerscw|Aug 28, 2007 8:22:49 PM]
I saw some old posts about the component connection causing problems with their Sony Cineza projectors. I had a similar problem, but I don't think it's related to the component input of the projector. My Sony VPL-HS20 also goes to the memory stick input and clicks off the HDMI setting. Thinking I had a problem with the HDMI input I tried the component input as well. What I found is that it only happens when 1) I have a high-def feed coming from my cable box, 2) It happens on any and all inputs used - component, HDMI, etc... Didn't matter what length of cable I used either. I've also had three different high-def cable boxes (this current one from Time Warner is a Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD) and none of them have acted any better or worse than the others.
It seems to boil down to an incompatibility between the cable boxes and the Sony - who's at fault I have no idea. I'm hoping some one else has figured out how to fix this other than selling the projector for a new one. I do notice that if I leave my cable box on for over an hour the problem seems to go away. Almost as if the cable box needs to warm up to function properly/send a strong enough signal. I also tried the auto-sensing feature (turned off) with all the different cable boxes as well as the different inputs with no luck. Anyone figure this out yet?

Have the same problems with my unit. Agree after hour of using it seems to quit or at least slow down. Does not seem to matter if its hdmi, component, or what. Wish there was fix turning off the auto input search does not help. Tried different components Sony dvd, Sony Blueray, Cox dvr, although the biggest problem is with dvtv, it will still do it till it warms up. I think it has something to do with the input of the VLP-hs20. Once it warms up things seem to work ok. This was not a problem when I first bought it, Just started as of late. |

Hey,
Just bought a Sony HS20. I am new to the projector world and wondering what I should do for a screen. I have a thow distance that can be anywhere from 10-18' it doesn't really matter. My viewing distance is going to be the same but will probably bein int that 11-15' range. I will be hanging the projector. What I am trying to decide is between a 92" and a 106" screen. Do you think that the picture on a 106" will be worse than the 92" on just plain tv. I have a bell express vu non HD reciver for satellite tv. I will not be watching much tv on it mostly just DVD's and XBOX 360. I was told that the picture could be noticabley worse on the 106 compared to the 92 with the plain tv. Also wondered if it is a good idea to go with the light grey screen to help with the blacks as it is an LCD projector. The two screens I am looking at have a 1.1 gain and the room can be bascially completely darkened if need be. Any help and opinions (good or bad) are appreciated.
Thanks |

I have connected an upconverting DVD player to my HS20 with an HDMI cable. Every thing was fine for a while but the last two times I changed the projector input from component to HDMI I've had problems.
The first time there was no picture and the second time the background was magenta. Both times the problem was corrected by cycling through the inputs with the remote back to HDMI. Anyone experienced anything like this? Will this likely get worse? |
