Topic:   Is this possible?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum hoping to get some straight forward advise and education on AV equipment. Presently I have a PGA 10X projector that I use with a satellite system (nothing special)and an XBOX 360 system for DVD's and gaming. I'm rather ignorant to the area of HD. I'm trying to find out if I upgrade my Sat receiver to include HD channels, will this projector be able to handle the display. It has a RS-232 D-15 input, S-video and standard RCA video input. There is no HDMI port. Without spending money that I could use towards a more current projector, is this as simple as finding a cable that goes from HDMI to rs 232 or are we talking adding a processor to change the signal. I purchased a cable that goes from the xbox to the rs 232 port. This gets things up to 480p. Just wondering if that's the ceiling for this projector. The manual says it's HD capable inputs of 480p, 720p and 1080i. Am I trying to make a sow's ear into a silk purse or is this worth doing?

Topic:   Overheating!!

I have been having an issue with the overheating of my projector. I bought it about three years ago (it is a Sharp Notevisiion PG-A10X - which at the time, had some of the best specs for the cost on the market). In any event, A couple of months ago there was a bright flash and the bulb went out. At the time, the bulb was at about 60-70% of it's life (meaning, it was over half used). I always use it in "econo" mode. I have the projector mounted in the family room which is about 15 feet from wall to wall. It is usually not terribly hot and has normal ventilation. The projector is mounted on the ceiling very close to the back wall. Now to the problem: it keeps overheating! Usually it just suddenly turns off and you have to wait a couple of hours before you can turn it back on (this can be annoying for movies!!) It can often go for a month or more without shutting down, but it will eventually happen. Since I bought a new bulb, I though the problem might be better, but it's not. On a warm day we'll run a fan in the room, but I'm not sure if that's actually helping. Is overheating a common problem? I havent' seen much on the forum, so I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my unit. Any ideas? I'm really hoping not to burn through anymore bulbs!!

Topic:   I finally did it! I bought a Optoma HD70... need some help plz

My screen covers the center speaker, so I wanted something that wouldn't interfere too heavily with the sound. I built a frame out of 1X2 boards, and stretched 2 layers of thin white cotton over the frame (wrapped and stapled to the back in a diagonal pattern to eliminate any ripples. - Like a streched canvas) Then I sprayed a satin finish white enamel on there. Works quite nicely, and sound comes through well. Also, not heavy. I too just bought an HD70. can't wait to get it! mental Denver

Topic:   White bands moving up the screen

My projector works fine from work. Tonight I brought it home to watch a movie on it. However, I have white bands slowly, but consistanly moving up the screen. Some are thin, some are thick, and they kind of blend into each other. You can see the picture through them, but they sure are annoying. I have tried connecting the prjector to my DVD player via S-Video and a regular RCA video cord. I have also tried my Xbox and all have the bands of white moving up the screen. I also tried plugging the projector into various outlets in the house to no avail. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Erik
