I have a Sony VPL-HS10 Cineza which is connected to a Sony Video/Audio control center ( STR-DB780) Is works Great when connected to my DVD player and my son's Playstation2.
My trouble is I really want to connect my PC to it for watching films, home-videos etc.
I have just bought a graphics card with a DVI connector and an s-video output, This is installed on my PC. I have easily connected the audio by using a 3.5mm pin/2 connecting jack adaptor. I may be miles away but I thought the video side of things would just be a case of connecting 1 end of the the s-video to my PC and the other to my projector (or control center) and I would be able to use either. This is not the case! Can anyone help with regard to any settings I may need etc. Can I only just use 1 at any 1 time? etc. etc.
Help please :)
Many thanks in advance guys.
This sounds like a Cheap Dave approved system. The key is you are enjoying it, not how much you spent. The projectors are really amazing. And the prices have come down so far that you get a really imprssive picture for less than a 42" plasma.
If you are a gamer you will be blown away when you hook up a PS3 or Xbox to it.
I recently added a PS3. So now I have blu-ray. I am really enjoying the blu-ray movies. Most of them are even more extremly letterboxed than the regular DVDs (2.4:1). So I zoom out even further. Even though my projector is only good for 720p the extra resolution in the source is apparent when projected that large.
I use Netflix so it was simple to change my profile so that all the movies on my list that are available in blu-ray automatically come as blu-ray.
Also the games are amazing and a really cool way to demo the surround sound. The sound moves around you real time. Bullets fly past and sounds pan around you as you turn full circle.

If there is one complaint, it's the gray bars at the top and bottom of the screen when playing 2.35:1 movies on my 16:9 screen. It's a feature of the HD 1000U. I wish the bars are black instead of gray.

I really like what you have done. It really matches my Cheap Dave philosophy. Get what you can afford now and start enjoying it. That includes using equipment you already have. In time if you feel there is room for improvement you can upgrade some of the components (a subwoofer or center speaker etc.)
As far as the gray bars: This is why I went with a projector with powered zoom and a screen with unlimited width. But since you have a fixes screen you might try making some masking panels. Put up a 2.35:1 moive and freeze frame it. Measure the gray bars. Then make panels out of cardboard, fiberboard etc. Cover it with black velevet. Then put some velcro (black) tabs on you screen frame. When you are going to watch one of those movies put the panels on.
You could try using just the fabric to begin with. That might work fine.
I know it isn't the most elegant solution but it should work nicely. I plan to eventually put up some curtains to do the same thing but on the width.
