One of our projectors we've had for several years (Sanyo PLC-XU38) has been having some problems lately. Several months back, the problem began with the projector turning itself off after a minute or so. I was able to fix this by turning it on its side, and powering it up like that, then moving it to a normal position. Last week, this problem happened again, and that "resolution" did not fix it. When I tried to turn the projector on, it begin warming up (the lamp would come on as well as the fans). After 30 seconds, the lamp turned off, but the fans remained on (cooling down). Once it was done cooling down, I was queryed the projector via its control port for its status, to which it returned 'Abnormal Power Supply'. I took the entire projector apart, cleaned out the little dust there was, reassembled, same problem. Do you think this is caused by the lamp being at the end of its life (currently 627 hours on it, according to specs, it will last until 1000 hours), or by the power supply or ballast going bad? My current guess is that its the lamp's fault, and that 'Abnormal power supply' error is caused by the increasingly higher voltage the power supply is trying to put out to compensate for the terminals deteriorating (UHP / Metal Halide Lamp).
