Hey guys, one of my friends was cleaning out his office and he came across his old VW12HT .... now he wants to sell it to me for $50 .... yeah ... 50 bucks.... the projectors missing the bulb and the power cord ....
i didnt even want a projector but he's almost insistent that this is a great deal ... at one point he even offered to give it to me for free ..
so, my question ... is this worth the trouble ? will it be worth paying $300-$400 for a bulb, or should i just simply pass on this one .... i know the projectors super old, but im not sure what kind of picture quality these guys have...
any suggestions ? |

First off, hello to everyone, I'm new to the forum. Hope I can find some information that can help me with my problem.
I've got a Sony VPL-VW12HT projector. It's worked wonders for the past few years, and just ordered a new lamp and changed the filter again.
However, whenever the projector is on, the bottom right corner of the screen starts to curve up. It's not a flat line, it starts right around the middle and starts to gradually curve up towards the very right edge.
Could this be a problem with the LCD unit itself? It started just a few months ago. I haven't had the time to call a service tech, nor do I think I have the money to fix it right away. It would be nice to have fixed though.
I'll see if I can snap some images, still waiting for the bulb to show.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Here are some pics of my home theater. Sorry, no pre-construction pics (although I have LOTS of them), these were just final pics (from 2004) I used on my web site. Everything is pretty much the same, no equipment upgrades or anything. Colors are a bit off, trying not to use the flash and couldn't get the white balance correct.
If anyone is interested I can post construction shots. |

I've searched high and low for some information related to my problem, and have found nothing. I'm hoping someone here can steer me in the right direction.
I have a Sony VPL-VW12HT projector that was purchased new in 2002. It has been wonderful, but lately (like for the past 18 months or so) has been plagued by some image artifacts.
Specifically, at times, and not all the time, a pinkish, fairly wide, horizontal bar will float up from the bottom of the screen. It will scroll up to the top and then repeat the process from the bottom. Sometimes it's accompanied by a narrow green bar that also scrolls. It only appears if there is a signal coming into the projector. For example, if I've selected to view a DVD, if the DVD player is on, the bar will appear. If the DVD player is off, the bar disappears.
It doesn't seem to matter if I'm connected using component video, S-video, or composite video.
The projector is rear-mounted, with 25-foot cables running from the audio/video equipment to the projector.
A friend of mine said that it was electrical interference, but I've been unable to isolate it. A relatively inexpensive power conditioner (my friend's suggestion) did nothing to help. The problem occurs far more frequently at night than during the day. It can start spontaneously and can also end spontaneously. Days, even weeks, can go by and it never happens. Then it will happen continuously for days.
Any ideas what the problem may be related to, and more importantly, what I might do to correct it?
Thanks in advance! |
